Twelve ways in which the Primary Progress Toolkit can support school management

1. Analyse pupils’ results using contextual value added

This worksheet gives you all the key information to help you to analyse pupils’ Contextual Value Added (CVA):

1 The ‘Contextual Value Added’ graph plots the actual KS2 points score (vertical axis) of pupils against the expected score (horizontal axis) using the overall
CVA model.

2 Pupils who appear above the diagonal orange line (the zero CVA line) have achieved a KS2 score above that expected, after considering the contextual factors. These pupils have positive CVA scores. Pupils who lie below this line have achieved a KS2 score less than expected and have a negative CVA score.
3 You can plot results for all pupils, or just boys or girls. You can also label the data points with the pupils’ names and compare the pupils against national results by displaying lines for the national percentile lines (10th, 25th, 75th and 90th) and KS2 levels.

Groups
Clicking on the ‘Groups’ button in the left-hand panel will highlight a particular group of pupils on the graph, for example those pupils receiving Free School Meals (FSM), and recalculate the overall CVA for this group.
